What We're Building

Swarmed is more than a dispatch tool. Every swarm report contributes to a distributed biomonitoring network spanning North America, Europe, and Australia. We've logged over 17,000 georeferenced swarm records and 4 million environmental observations.

We use that data to model swarm timing using growing degree days, score local habitat quality using satellite-derived canopy cover and vegetation indices, and map swarm density patterns at the county level across the continent.

That research powers the tools we put in beekeepers' hands: swarm season forecasts, peak bloom calendars, regional activity maps, and local trend data updated each season.

Swarmed is a Satellite Partner of the UC Davis Master Beekeeper Program.

Citizen science for our pollinators

Citizens of the Hive is our not-for-profit open data project, turning the swarm reports and environmental observations collected through Swarmed into freely available public datasets for researchers, conservationists, and land managers.

Bee swarms are sensitive indicators of colony health, habitat quality, and seasonal change. By making this data openly accessible, we're helping scientists study pollinator population trends, track the effects of land use and climate on swarm activity, and build a longer-term picture of honey bee health across the continent.

If you're a researcher or institution interested in accessing the dataset, get in touch at info@beeswarmed.org.
