# Swarmed help

## Reporting a swarm

- Is bee removal free? Collecting a swarm is usually free. Getting an established colony out of a wall or roof usually is not. Here is the difference.

## What Swarmed is

 Swarmed is a free community platform that connects people who find honey bee swarms with local beekeepers who can collect them. Someone reports a swarm, the beekeepers nearest it are alerted within seconds by email, text or WhatsApp, and the first one to claim it gets the address and the reporter's contact details. The bees are collected and rehived instead of being sprayed.

 It is free for the person reporting, and free for beekeepers who want email alerts. More than 20,000+ swarm reports have come through the platform, and that record is what powers the [seasonal and mapping tools](/swarmed-data) beekeepers use to plan a season.
